Kaieteur Sports – A fine spell of the left-arm spin courtesy of the ace Veerasammy Permaul, backed by a few teammates with the ball, kept Nandu XI in the driver’s seat as they trail Imlach’s XI by 76-runs heading into the second day at Everest.
In what ended as a far more competitive opening day compared to Game 1, batting first didn’t go well for skipper Tevin Imlach and his men who were reeling at 79-7 during one stage before eventually being strangled for 127-10 after 49.3 overs in their first innings.
The leading wicket-taker in first class cricket and arguably one of the biggest weapons in the Guyana Harpy Eagles arsenal, Permaul was instrumental in keeping the Imlach XI to a mediocre score as he raked 4-35 from 17 overs, to help put his team in a winning position.
His teammates duly supported the mission, as fast-bowler Nial Smith (2-18) drew first blood by bagging both openers in Raymond Perez (15) and Ushardeva Balgobin (8).
Young medium-pacer Thaddeus Lovell (2-30), also found success as he picked up a pair of key wickets in Navindra Persaud (12) and a returning Kevin Sinclair (7); who were both out caught.
Permaul by then had already knocked over his fellow Berbician in Kevlon Anderson for 9 runs, before taking control of the innings.
Although Imlach resisted with a grueling 36 from 84 with a pair of fours, his dismissal at the hands of Permaul in the 41st over, came at a bad time especially with his team barely crossing the 100-run mark a few overs prior.
Power-hitters Johnathan Van Lange (10) and Ronaldo Alimohammed (0) missed out along with Richie Looknauth (7); who all succumbed to the mastery of Permaul, before spinner Junior Sinclair (1-23) claimed the final wicket.

Imlach XI Fast-medium pacer Ronaldo Alimohamed, claimed the huge wicket of opposition captain Matthew Nandu a little before stumps yesterday.
By stumps, Nandu XI had replied strongly with 51-1 after 27 overs and will need opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul (30*) and new-man Kemol Savory (6*) to do the lion’s share of the work today; after unfortunately losing their skipper Matthew Nandu (12) shortly before close of play.
Thanks to pacer Alimohamed, who got the huge breakthrough at the right time, Imlach XI got a bit of momentum going back with the wicket of the opposition skipper but will need to continue to chip away at the dangerous batting order, come today when play resumes. (Clifton Ross)
