(Kaieteur News) – The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development has launched an investigation following claims on social media that cases of water dumped at the Haags Bosch Landfill were later removed from the site for possible human consumption.
In a statement on Thursday, the ministry said it has taken note of the allegation and is treating the matter with the “utmost seriousness,” as it suggests that several established protocols may have been breached.
According to the ministry, an immediate investigation will be conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The ministry explained that liquid waste is not accepted at the landfill and that any waste requiring special destruction must receive prior approval before being transported to the site. It added that an official destruction date is usually scheduled to ensure that such processes are carried out under proper supervision.
It also noted that anyone found to have violated the required procedures will be held accountable.
