Dear Editor,
To you and your Editorial Staff: Happy Phagwah 2026!
As the moon rises full and the vibrant colours of Phagwah prepare to paint our nation, the leadership and membership of A New and United Guyana – ANUG- extend our warmest and most joyous greetings to Guyanese everywhere. It is noteworthy indeed that in 2026, the transcendental trigon of Hindu (Phagwah) Muslim(Ramadan) and Christian( Lent) faiths significantly coalesce!
To our brothers and sisters at home, and to our cherished Guyanese diaspora spread across the globe, we wish you a Phagwah filled with the brilliant light of hope and the sweet taste of togetherness.
This Phagwah, the Holi of colours, is more than a festival; it is a profound reminder of our shared humanity. It is the celebration of the triumph of truth, the renewal of life, and the beautiful diversity that defines us. As chowtal fills the air and gulal stains our skin, we see a powerful metaphor for the Guyana we are building together—a nation where every shade, every community, and every belief blends to create a masterpiece of unity.
At ANUG, we believe the spirit of Phagwah is embedded in the spirit of our nation’s future. It is the spirit that washes away the old animosities (the Holika of division) and anoints us with the promise of a fresh start. It is the conviviality of laughter that knows no language, the embrace that knows no race, and the love that knows no political boundary. As we collectively celebrate this sacred time, we encourage all to see the face of your neighbour in every colour that is thrown. Let the joyous journey through the year 2026 be one where we replace suspicion with understanding, conflict with collaboration, and division with lasting unity.
May this Phagwah bring an abundance of joy, vibrant health, and prosperity to your homes. May it strengthen the bonds of family and community, and may it inspire us all to work hand in hand for the Guyana we all love. ANUG adjure all to move forward, together, with love, unity, and respect for all.
Jai Hind! Happy Phagwah to all!
Sincerely,
Jonathan Subrian
Acting Chairman. ANUG
