(Kaieteur News) – Two masked gunmen on Friday night robbed the Rongchang Supermarket at Diamond, East Bank Demerara, carting off $300,000 in cash.
Police said the robbery was committed between 21:24hrs and 21:25hrs at the supermarket located at Lot 1793 Fourth Bridge, Diamond.
Shinshan Mo, 47, is the owner and operator of the business and was at the time assisted by You Yu Liany, 21, Du Yong Jian, 48, and Yu Ci Zhi, 18.
You Yu Liany told the police that about 21:23hrs he was at the cash register when a man dressed in a black long-sleeve jersey and grey pants, and wearing a white face mask, entered the building armed with a black handgun.
The suspect reportedly discharged a round into the air. A second man, dressed in a black jumpsuit with a white face mask, orange reflector vest and flap hat, then entered and went into the cashier’s booth, pushed the cashier aside and removed $300,000 from the register.
The two suspects subsequently exited the supermarket and mounted a black XR motorcycle, registration number unknown, which was parked in front of the building. Police said that as the suspects escaped another round was discharged into the air.
One spent shell was recovered and CCTV footage is being reviewed.
