(Kaieteur News) – Five men have been arrested for allegedly stealing $8,640 worth of cheese from a supermarket along the La Bonne Intention (LBI) Public Road, East Coast Demerara on Friday.
Those in custody are a 48-year-old construction worker of Campbellville, Georgetown; a 35-year-old construction worker of Stevedore Housing Scheme, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown; a 28-year-old man of Section ‘C’, Sophia; a 35-year-old gold miner of Princess Street, Lodge, Georgetown and a 19-year-old Stevedore of South Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
According to police, two men entered the supermarket and one allegedly removed eight packs of cheese, concealing them. The act was reportedly captured on the establishment’s CCTV system.
The perpetrators and other occupants of a car attempted to flee the scene. However, ranks who responded, intercepted the vehicle along the Triumph Public Road, East Coast Demerara.
All five occupants were detained and taken to the Beterverwagting Police Station. A cutlass found in the vehicle.
