(Kaieteur News) – Two Chinese businessmen of Providence, East Bank Demerara were assaulted and robbed of $1.2 million while at the corner of Leopold and Breda Streets, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown.
Police reported that the incident occurred on Thursday around 12:00hrs. The businessmen were proceeding west along Leopold Street in a minibus when they stopped at the corner of Leopold and Breda Streets and were approached by four males.
One of the suspects reportedly opened the driver’s side door, removed two black haversacks from between the front seats, which reportedly contained the cash and one cellular phone. The suspect then dealt both victims one cuff each to their faces, before escaping.
CCTV footage was recovered and is presently being reviewed as part of the investigation.
