(Kaieteur News) – Though she remains in a critical state at the New Amsterdam Hospital, Tiana Chapman, the 15-year-old who was stabbed 25 times by the father of her 10-month baby, is said to be making progress.
Relatives told Kaieteur News that the teen is no longer motionless and is making sounds. Chapman was placed on an oxygen machine on Wednesday.
“They take out the tube that they had down her throat, she’s breathing off of the oxygen mask. She’s raising her hands, she’s moving her legs, she’s nodding her head and these kinda things, her eyes open and she’s looking at us,” a relative told Kaieteur News.
Chapman, of Pepper Street, Edinburgh Village, East Bank Berbice, was admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after Christopher Ali, her child’s father, attacked her on Tuesday evening while she was at a friend’s home in the same street she lives.
Ali reportedly dealt the teen 25 stab wounds with a knife, leaving her blood-smeared as he hurriedly escaped.
The girl was rushed to the hospital, and was immediately listed as critical. Relatives are optimistic of her recovery, based on the doctors’ indication.
“She recovering well….so far, because the doctor explained that she is way better than when she came in. She is recovering well,” a relative told Kaieteur News.
Ali remains on the run.
