(Kaieteur News) – Three persons were arrested on Friday after they were found with ten brick-like parcels of cocaine. The trio have been identified as Jared and Jahdiel Kellawan and David Newsum.
The Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) in a statement on Saturday said that its officers acting on information, conducted an operation in the vicinity of Mora Village, Parika, East Bank Essequibo where the trio was intercepted. One of the males was carrying a haversack.
“A subsequent search of the haversack revealed three (3) brick-like parcels suspected to be cocaine,” CANU said.
The three men were then taken to Jared’s home where officers discovered an additional “seven (7) brick-like parcels suspected to be cocaine.”
CANU said that the trio was taken to its headquarters in Georgetown and the narcotics weighed. The cocaine amounted to 10.966 kilograms.
Investigations are ongoing.
