Kaieteur Sports – Essequibo Technical Institute (ETI) kept their quarterfinal hopes alive with a pulsating 5-3 victory over Leonora Technical and Vocational Training Centre (LTVTC) when the inaugural Modec Tertiary Football Tournament continued on Tuesday.
Playing at the Imam Bacchus Recreational Facility in Essequibo, ETI showed resilience and attacking flair to secure their second win of the home-and-away campaign in an eight-goal thriller.

LTVTC struck first in the 25th minute through Reon Alleyne, who finished confidently to hand his side an early 1-0 advantage. However, ETI responded five minutes later as Deangelo Davidson found the equaliser in the 30th minute to restore parity.
The visitors regained the lead shortly after the restart when Therry Thorne breached ETI’s backline with a clinical finish in the 49th minute to make it 2-1. But the advantage was short-lived. Jamal Smith produced a timely response, netting the equaliser in the 51st minute as the contest intensified.
With progression on the line, the tempo and emotions soared. Davidson struck again to give ETI a 3-2 edge, but LTVTC refused to go away. Kenard Simon levelled proceedings at 3-3 in the 55th minute, setting up a dramatic finale.
Davidson, however, proved the difference-maker. The in-form forward powered home his third goal in the 62nd minute to complete a well-earned hat-trick and restore ETI’s lead at 4-3. Ten minutes later, Jim Carter sealed the result with a decisive strike to make it 5-3.
From there, ETI tightened defensively and denied LTVTC any route back into the contest, preserving a crucial victory.
Meanwhile, action later shifted to Scott’s Ground in Berbice, where the University of Guyana Tain Campus and Upper Corentyne Training Centre battled to a 2-2 draw.
The tournament is sponsored by Modec Guyana with support from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Demerara Mutual Group, MVP Sports, Banks Powerade and Macorp. The competition is being coordinated by the Petra Organisation.
