(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Police Force has arrested four persons in connection with the armed robbery of a 59-year-old Herstelling, East Bank Demerara (EBD) businessman on Thursday.
According to a police report, the incident occurred around 21:15hrs at Herstelling New Scheme.
The suspects are a 21-year-old driver, a 28-year-old labourer, a 19-year-old female and a 24-year-old porter, all of Bougainvillea Park, Farm.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman was walking along a street in the area when she was approached by two males, one reportedly armed with what appeared to be a handgun and the other with a knife.
Police said that “the suspect armed with the knife placed it to the victim’s neck and demanded her valuables, while the other suspect stood by armed with the suspected firearm.”
Fearful for her life, the woman handed over a bag containing two cellular phones and other personal items worth $93,500. The suspects reportedly then fled the scene in a motor car.
The police stated that acting on information, ranks later went to a residence at Bougainvillea Park, Farm, EBD, where a motor car suspected to be connected to the robbery was seen. There a search was conducted on the vehicle and premises during which one of the stolen cellular phones was recovered, along with several other phones, two toy guns, a cutlass, scissors, a quantity of cash suspected to be counterfeit and a bottle of wine, the police detailed.
Investigations are ongoing.
