(Kaieteur News) – A 19-year-old resident of Annai Village, North Rupununi, Region Nine, was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the fatal stabbing of 21-year-old tourist guide John Elliot.

Elliot, a resident of Surama Village, North Rupununi, and a tour guide attached to Atta Lodge, was reportedly stabbed to death around 01:30 hrs. on September 21, 2025, during heritage month celebrations in Annai Village.

According to police, a female police officer who was attending the event witnessed the attack.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said the suspect was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation conducted at his residence.

During the operation, officers observed several individuals in the house, including five male juveniles, a 21-year-old man, and the murder suspect. A search was carried out, and a quantity of suspected cannabis was allegedly found in the possession of the 19-year-old.

Police said the narcotics were weighed in the suspect’s presence and amounted to 11 grams before being lodged as evidence.

All individuals at the residence were arrested and taken to the Annai Police Station, where they are assisting with ongoing investigations.

The suspect is also being investigated for possession of cannabis. Investigations into the murder are continuing.
