(Kaieteur News) – As the championship window opens for regional darts, the Guyana Darts Association (GDA) is set to host its Caribbean Darts and Latin Central America (CDLC) trials on Sundays, February 8 and 15, at the Malteenoes Sports Club, Thomas Lands, Georgetown.
The trials form a critical part of Guyana’s pathway to international darts, giving more local players the opportunity to earn national representation on the Championship Darts Latin America and Caribbean Tour. These tours are designed to develop emerging talent across the region, with top performers on the CDLC Order of Merit advancing to qualify for the World Darts Championship.
According to the GDA, the upcoming trials will serve as a talent-scouting platform as the association seeks to identify the country’s best players. Participation slots are limited due to having four male and two female in ranking order to represent Guyana in the first leg of the CDLC Qualifier. That event is scheduled to take place in Panama in April 2026.
The second leg of the Qualifier has already been confirmed for July 2026, giving successful players a structured and competitive pathway to test themselves against the region’s elite.
The association has extended an open invitation to darts lovers and sports enthusiasts to attend and support what it describes as a groundbreaking initiative for the sport locally. The GDA is also appealing to Corporate Guyana for sponsorship and assistance, noting that any level of support would help in nurturing the next generation of darts stars and ensuring the successful hosting of these events.
Registration for the trials will begin at 1:00 p.m. on both days, with matches expected to get underway at 2:00 p.m. A registration fee of $2,000 will be charged.
With international qualification on the line and regional recognition at stake, the upcoming trials are expected to be a major highlight on Guyana’s sporting calendar and a significant step forward for the development of darts in the country.
