$500k cash, iPhones and gold chain snatched in robbery at Chinese supermarket

(Kaieteur News) – Two bandits dressed in construction jumpers and armed with a gun grabbed $500,000 in cash, two iPhones and a US$12,000 gold chain while robbing the Yuan Bao Chinese supermarket on Thursday, at Friendship, East Bank Demerara (EBD)

Police said the robbery took place around 21:20hrs. Reports are that the bandits were masked and pulled up on a Honda XR motorcycle.

They grabbed the gold chain and an iPhone 17 from a man who was standing in front of the supermarket and chatting with a friend before entering the building.

The bandits then grabbed the day’s sales (500K) from the cash register and the cashier’s (a Chinese national) iPhone and made good their escape on the bike in a northern direction along the East Bank Public Road at East Bank.  Investigations are ongoing.
