(Kaieteur News) – A 34-year-old gold miner was on Friday remanded to prison in connection with the murder of Bartica resident Emmanuel Williams, also known as “Chiney.”
The accused, Travis Brewster, called ‘Turpin’ of Victory Valley, Wismar, Linden, was wanted by the Guyana Police Force (GPF) since July 2025 in relation to two separate murder investigations.
He was arrested on January 26 and charged in connection with Williams’ death, which occurred on January 23, 2026, at 14 Mile, Issano Landing, Middle Mazaruni. Brewster is also wanted in relation to a separate murder that allegedly occurred on July 17.
Following his arrest, Brewster was charged with the indictable offence of murder.
He appeared via Zoom before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed at the Bartica Magistrates’ Court, where the charge was read to him. He was not required to plead and was remanded to prison until February 27, 2026.
Investigations revealed that Williams was at a bar when he and another male (allegedly Brewster) had an altercation. During the ruckus he was stabbed in the chest. A post-mortem examination later determined that Williams died from perforation of the lungs and heart caused by the stab wound.
His body was subsequently handed over to relatives for burial.
