Kaieteur Sports – Former Blaze T20 champs Guyana, will be on a mission to capture some new gold after dropping their title in the recently concluded tourney; with a change in format possibly working in favor of the local ladies who tackle Jamaica in today’s opening round at the Cumberland Playing Field.
Super50 action continues across St. Vincent, picking up from the Blaze T20 Cup, which saw Leeward Island being crowned new T20 champs after a stellar performance. Now looking to shift their attention and carry their momentum as well as their form into the 50-over format; Leewards with the possibility of ending the season with both titles will be in for a challenge.

After losing their T20 title, the Guyanese women will be seeking a turnaround during the Super50 Tournament.
Barbados will have the pleasure of facing the new T20 champs Leewards at Park Hill, as part of Round 1’s triple-header bout, which also features defending champs Trinidad & Tobago locking horns with the Windward Island at Sion Hill Playing Field; as well as the Guyana/Jamaica clash.
With most teams knowing their strengths and weaknesses after a testing Blaze competition, more could be expected once the players look to settle in and adjust their tempo as it relates to playing for an additional 30 overs.
Guyana will be looking to impose themselves today against the Jamaicans, with their front-line from players like Shabika Gajnabi, Shemaine Campbell, Ashmini Munisar, Plaffianna Millington and Sheneta Grimmond remaining the key for the team’s success.
Spinner Kaysia Schultz who clicked in the last round of the T20, along with players like the Williams’ sisters and opener Realanna Grimmond, will need to quickly find their feet with more overs and time in the middle up for the 50-Over series.
Jamaica on the other hand will be keen on getting the most out of their stars like Chedean Nation, Stafanie Taylor, Rashada Willams and others who have been good but not up to the mark the Jamaicans are usually at, leaving a bit of room for the Guyanese to draw a first-blood win and put themselves in a comfortable position with just 3 rounds of action on the cards.
All matches will bowl off from 9:30h. (Clifton Ross)

(Kaieteur News) – I’m not a particularly political person. Actually, I’m hardly a person at all sometimes, at least not in the sense that people usually mean. But I have been following Guyanese politics the way some people follow serial killers. You can’t look away, even though you know...Jan 18, 2026
By Sir Ronald Sanders (Kaieteur News) – When powerful states act, small states are tempted to personalize the action. When small states fragment, powerful states do not need to explain themselves. That is the lesson CARICOM should draw from the recent U.S. decision to impose partial visa...Jan 27, 2026
(Kaieteur News) – It could be rightly called Guyana’s version of a tale of two cities. Or, so that it is much easier to appreciate, I give Guyanese a new image of the haves and have nots. It is stark. Just look at the waistline of those who have it good. Then study that of those...Freedom of speech is our core value at Kaieteur News.
