(Kaieteur News) – Three persons were on Thursday night killed in an accident along the Linden-Mabura Trail, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) disclosed on Saturday. In a statement, the GPF said that the accident occurred around 21:30h and involved a truck and a hire car.
The dead trio have been identified as 32-year-old Marcus Berley of One Mile, Wismar – the driver of the hire car and passengers Andrew Irvin, 52, also of One Mile, Wismar and Maureen Patricia Woodley, 81, a Jamaican-born naturalised USA citizen.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the hire car bearing HD 6751 was headed west along the southern lane of the road, allegedly at a fast rate when it collided with the right rear end of parked truck bearing registration number GJJ 4000 with trailer TSS 4613 that was facing the same direction on the same side of the road.
The collision resulted in the Berley, Irvin and Woodley sustaining injuries. They were subsequently being transported to the Linden Hospital Complex in an unconscious state.
The trio was examined by a doctor on duty, who pronounced them dead on arrival. The truck driver, a 36-year-old male who hails from Craig, East Bank Demerara, has been arrested and is assisting police with the investigation.
