(Kaieteur News) – Two men were remanded on Wednesday and another was granted bail for the 154 pounds of cocaine discovered at Parika on Sunday.
In a release, the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) said that “Devon Haynes and Narindra Singh appeared before Magistrate George at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court on charges related to the offence of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking 70.008 kilograms of cocaine.”
Though the duo pleaded not guilty to the charge, they were refused bail and instead remanded until 20th February 2026.
A third man, Mark Jainarine appeared before Magistrate George at the same court to answer to the charge of aiding in the commission of trafficking the said 70.008 kilograms of cocaine.
He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of GYD$600,000. He is set to return to court on 20th February 2026.
On January 19 CANU intercepted some 154 pounds of cocaine at Parika, East Bank Essequibo.
The unit said acting on information, an operation was conducted in the vicinity of Parika, East Bank Essequibo, which resulted in the seizure of 70 kilograms (154 pounds) of cocaine.
Four men, including a Hispanic national were arrested and escorted to CANU headquarters, along with the cocaine. Police said investigations are ongoing.
