(Kaieteur News) – Norwegian offshore firm DOF Group ASA has been awarded a “large contract” for works on ExxonMobil Guyana Limited’s seventh Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) vessel for its Hammerhead development in the Stabroek Block – Hammerhead.
In a release on Monday, the company said the contract was awarded by MODEC Guyana Inc. for the provision of mooring pre-lay for the Hammerhead FPSO project offshore Guyana.
MODEC, a Japanese shipbuilder was contracted in April 2025 by EMGL for the Hammerhead FPSO.
DOF said its North America subsea team will provide in-house project management, engineering, procurement, logistics base, transportation and installation utilising DOF’s Skandi Implementer for the pile installation and Skandi Skansen for the mooring lines.
Chief Executive Officer of DOF ASA, Mons S. Aase commented on the contract award stating, “I am pleased to see how DOF is increasingly recognised as global turn-key contractor combining our in-house expertise in subsea and mooring installation with the top of the class assets.” The company said offshore execution is scheduled between the second and third quarters of 2027.
First oil from the Hammerhead project is expected by 2029. It was reported that the project will use a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) conversion-type FPSO. Notably, a total of 445 million barrels of oil is forecast to be produced with an estimated daily production capacity of 150,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd).
In September 2025, the Government of Guyana approved a Petroleum Production Licence (PPL) for EMGL’s seventh development in the Stabroek Block, the US$6.8 billion Hammerhead project.
The Hammerhead development is located in the south-western portion of the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana and targets the Hammerhead reservoir. Hammerhead was announced as Exxon’s ninth commercial discovery in August 2018. The Hammerhead-1 well was drilled in a new reservoir, encountering approximately 197 feet (60 metres) of high-quality, oil-bearing sandstone reservoir. The well was safely drilled to 13,862 feet (4,225 metres) depth in 3,773 feet (1,150 metres) of water.
