Kaieteur News understands that Wayalayeng is a satellite community of Phillipai and has close to 200 residents residing there. The community currently has an old wooden structure health post which has been around for over 10 years.
Speaking briefly with Kaieteur News on Thursday, Toshao of Phillipai Mark Joseph said his Village Council has been making requests on behalf of Wayalayeng for a new health facility there. He stated the Wayalayeng Health Post, “that building is in a deplorable condition presently, when you see the condition it’s very old.”
As far as he knows, works on the new building have not started yet, but Toshao Joseph added that “Yes, it will bring great relief when the new and fully furnished health post is built at Wayalayeng.”
In relation to the health post, back in October 2025, Leader of the WIN Party, Azruddin Mohamed took to his Team Mohamed’s Facebook page and highlighted the deplorable state of the health post. “Wayal Ayeng is a satellite village of Phillipai, Region 7, that is home to about 200 residents. There is a dilapidated health post that serves the community. The building has been in this deplorable condition for 10 years, which means both the PPP and the APNU administration failed the people. The health post has one midwife and one community health worker. The health post does not have an emergency boat,” the party leader explained.
Sharing pictures on the condition of the building, Mohamed stated that “These pictures are telling. Basic health services are lacking in Guyana. Would the President or any sitting cabinet member go to Wayal Ayeng Health Post to seek medical attention?”
At the time of his post, he called on the Ministry of Health to build a new health post in the community.
