(Kaieteur News) – A 31-year-old taxi driver of Annandale West, East Coast Demerara, is now hospitalised in a critical condition, following an attempt by a biker to end his life on Monday.
Police said an investigation was launched into the incident, where a loaded firearm was discharged with the intent to commit murder. The incident occurred around 23:45hrs on Monday at Triumph, East Coast Demerara in the vicinity of the Regional Democratic Council, Region # 4.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was travelling west along the public road in a motor car with another male when he was allegedly pursued by several motorcyclists. While proceeding along the public road, a loud sound was heard and the right-side glass of the vehicle shattered after which the victim reportedly lost consciousness and the vehicle collided with a metal rail,” police said.
The injured man was then transported to the Enmore Regional Hospital to receive medical attention and it was confirmed that he sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
CCTV footage from the area was canvassed and extracted and several persons were contacted and questioned, police said.
Up until press time, no arrests were made, but police are following several leads as investigations continue.
