(Kaieteur News) – An accident on Saturday afternoon on Republic Road ‘Back Dam’, New Amsterdam claimed the life of a pedal cyclist, while another man was admitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital.
Dead is Nicolas Agard, a security guard of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam. The injured man was identified as Kenneth Clarkson, a 21-year-old resident of Fort Ordinance, East Canje, Berbice.
According to information reaching this publication, Agard was riding his bicycle in the vicinity of Charlotte Street at around 13:40 hrs when Clarkson, who was riding his motorcycle in the same direction, reportedly slammed into him from behind.
Clarkson was reportedly not wearing a safety helmet at the time.
As a result of the impact, the duo suffered injuries to their bodies, but Agard, who was said to be unresponsive, succumbed while receiving medical attention.
Clarkson, in the meantime, remains hospitalised, while police are continuing their investigations.
