(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) has received seven bids from consultancy firms interested in determining the Renewable Energy Hosting Capacity Limits in the Distribution System of the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) and for the development of Distribution Codes for Guyana.
The bids were opened recently at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) office. The bidders hail from Colombia, Canada, Ireland, Argentina, India, Guyana, France and Germany.
The GEA in its advertisement for bids said that the project would be financed by the World Bank.
“The Government of Guyana has applied for financing from the World Bank towards the costs of the Caribbean Efficient and Green-Energy Buildings Project (CEGEB Project) and intends to apply part of the proceeds to payments for consulting services under the project. The consulting services (“the Services”) will inform the Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) on the distribution system requirement from a planning and operational perspective and define the minimum technical requirements to accommodate increasing penetration levels of Distributed Energy Resource (DER),” GEA explained in its tender notice.
This publication understands that the implementation period will be six months.
It was reported that Guyana, along with two other Caribbean countries, has signed a new World Bank loan to help increase the supply of renewable energy in public buildings. The total loan for the three countries amounts to US$$131.87 million and has three components.
Guyana was provided US$30 million from the Bank.
