(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) has instructed all miners and stakeholders, including traders, to update their personal records with the commission by January 31, 2026.
In a notice on Friday, the commission said the update applies to information such as mailing and email addresses, telephone contact numbers and banking details. GGMC noted that it is the responsibility of each licence or permit holder to ensure their information is accurate and current. Failure to comply by the deadline will result in the suspension of relevant licences and/or permits.
Further, GGMC also announced that all miners and stakeholders are required to maintain a local bank account as a mandatory condition for the processing, access or renewal of mining licences and permits.
Persons who have not previously submitted their banking information to the commission are required to do so by January 31, 2026. Those without a bank account must take immediate steps to regularise their status.
To support this process, the Ministry of Natural Resources will collaborate with the banking sector to conduct outreach exercises in Mahdia, Puruni and Matthew’s Ridge. During these engagements, authorised banking representatives will assist miners and stakeholders with opening personal bank accounts.
GGMC warned that non-compliance with the local bank account requirement will affect the processing, issuance or renewal of licences and permits.
