Brazilians buried alive in mining pit at Chenapou
(Kaieteur News) – Two Brazilian miners were on Tuesday buried alive, after a mining pit collapsed at “S” Bend Backdam, Chenapou, North Pakaraimas.
The deceased have been identified as Cleumiton Da Silva Santos, 37, and Antonio Filho, 44. The incident reportedly occurred around 16:00hrs.
According to police reports, the two men, along with other miners were working inside a mining pit, when a quantity of sand collapsed. “While other workers managed to escape, both men became trapped and were later retrieved motionless,” police said.
Police stated that due to the remote location, the bodies remained at “S” Bend Backdam, before relocating to the Mahdia District Hospital, where post-mortem examinations will be conducted. Investigations are ongoing.
