(Kaieteur News) – Police are investigating the recovery of a suspected illegal firearm and ammunition following an intelligence-led operation conducted on Monday December 23, 2025 between 12:00hrs and 13:00hrs at Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara.
During the operation, police ranks observed a 33-year-old businessman of Vryheid’s Lust behaving in a suspicious manner. Police ranks approached the man, who discarded an object into a nearby trench.
A search was conducted in the said trench, during which ranks recovered one suspected 9mm pistol along with a magazine containing six (6) live rounds of ammunition. The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Sparendaam Police Station along with the suspected firearm and ammunition, which were lodged pending investigation. The suspect remains in Police custody as investigations continue.
