(Kaieteur News) – Police in Regional Division # 9 are investigating the discovery of two illegal firearms during enquiries into a report of Simple Larceny at Karasabai Village, South Pakaraimas.
On Sunday December 21, 2025 about 14:20hrs ranks from the Karasabai Police Station responded to a report in relation to an alleged Simple Larceny which reportedly occurred on Friday December 19, 2025 about 20:30hrs at the said location. As part of the investigation, police ranks proceeded to a residence at Jawarie Village, South Pakaraimas, where investigations conducted resulted in a search of the premises.
During the search, one .36-gauge shotgun and one 20-gauge shotgun were discovered in a bedroom area. A 42-year-old male farmer of the said village was arrested and escorted along with the firearms to the Lethem Police Station. The suspect was placed into custody and the firearms were lodged as investigations continued.
Subsequent to the investigation, Gerald Isaacs, a 42-year-old Farmer of Jawarie Village, South Pakaraimas was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm without a license, contrary to Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05. On Monday December 22, 2025 about 11:00hrs, the defendant appeared at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court before His Worship Magistrate Omadatt Chandan, where the charges were read and he pleaded guilty to both counts. He was fined $50,000 and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment on the first count and fined $50,000 and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment on the second count.
