(Kaieteur News) – Omai Gold Mines Corp. has reported strong gold intersections from its ongoing drilling programme at the Omai Gold Project in Guyana, including high-grade results at one of its mining pit.
In a recent release, the Canadian company said significant mineralisation was intersected in a hole at Central Wenot. Omai holds 100% interest in the past-producing Omai gold project, which hosts two orogenic gold deposits: the shear-hosted Wenot Deposit and the adjacent intrusive-hosted Gilt Creek Deposit. The project is in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
The company said it has completed a total of 79 drill holes totalling 35,300 metres on the Omai project so far this year. Of that total, 30 holes amounting to 13,250 metres at Wenot were either completed or underway after the August 2025 Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) cut-off and were therefore not included in the current resource. Omai previously announced an updated combined MRE of 2.1 million ounces of gold (indicated), a 7% increase, and 4.3 million ounces of gold (inferred), a 92% increase from the previous MRE.
Notably the additional holes will feed into an updated MRE planned for early 2026, ahead of an updated Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) expected in the first half of 2026.
Moreover, five drill rigs are currently operating at Wenot, with a focus on expanding the resource and optimising the upcoming PEA. The company also noted that it has surpassed its target of completing an additional 10,000 metres of drilling at Wenot after the August MRE by year-end.
According to the company, the post-August drill programme is targeting less-drilled zones within the southern sedimentary sequence, while also extending holes northward. Omai said this approach is intended to grow the Wenot resource, reduce the strip ratio in the upcoming PEA and upgrade portions of the inferred resource to the indicated category.
Commenting on the results, President and CEO Elaine Ellingham said, “We are excited to see a very significant new zone at the east end of Wenot, where there has been limited drilling in the past. The intersection of 11.07 g/t Au over 14.7m in Hole 142 represents a spectacular new zone and follow-up drilling is underway.”
She added, “We greatly accelerated drilling this year at Omai and set a goal of completing an additional 10,000m of drilling on Wenot prior to year-end and are pleased to announce that we have already exceeded this goal.”
Ellingham said the additional Wenot drilling is expected to support both resource growth and mine planning. “An additional 30 holes have been completed or are currently underway on Wenot and these additional Wenot holes will contribute to a planned updated Mineral Resource Estimate, which will be integrated into the updated PEA planned for H1 2026,” she stated.
