(Kaieteur News) – A 27-year-old special constable, on Monday, was charged with manslaughter and placed on $500,000 bail for the death of her boyfriend, 42-year-old Peter Michael Rawlins.
The accused, Rayana Simpson of Lot 429 Recht-Door-Zee Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, made her first court appearance at the Wales Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Rhondel Weever where the charge was read to her.
Simpson was not required to plead to the charge and was subsequently placed on bail, with the condition that she report to the police, on the 15th of every month at Leonora Police Station. Her matter was adjourned to January 13, 2026.
It was reported that the incident occurred on December 3, 2025 at 17:00hrs at Recht-Door- Zee. Police had reported that Rawlins who was a porter of Tucville, Georgetown sustained a stab wound to his upper right leg during an argument.
He was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor. The woman was subsequently arrested and taken into custody and an investigation was launched.
