Dear Editor,
I spoke with the mayor after he announced that the restoration of City Hall would not be completed as promised by the end of this year, what I found troubling is that I couldn’t obtain clear responses to some of my concerns, such as the state of the two baby grand pianofortes.
Fortunately, I understand that two piano tuners are available, Mr. Remington Alley came in from overseas and is doing some work for the government, also Mr. Hall, an expert piano repair tuner son lives in Guyana and is available.
I recall as mayor having the one instrument at the eastern end of the stage completely restored and tuned. On a visit, I observed that someone had placed an empty drink bottle on this magnificent musical item, I immediately had a strong waterproof canvas covers made to protect the pianofortes. With great sadness, I learnt that neither pianoforte is in good functioning order.
Mr. Editor forgive me, if I recall that as a young student of the late music teacher Shirley Garraway, I was tasked to play the National Anthem on one of the pianofortes and hence my abiding interest as a patriot. I am further saddened that some folks who now hold high office at the municipal and national level seem not to appreciate the importance of preserving all our history and culture, let us, all of us correct this failure and foible.
Sincerely,
Elder Hamilton Green
