2025/26 CWI CG United Regional Super50 Cup Round 2… GHE vs. WIV
By Clifton Ross
Kaieteur Sports – Windward Islands Volcanoes, fresh off a win, will be seeking to go two up when they face an equally in-form Guyana Harpy Eagles unit come today at the Sir Frank Worrell Ground, St. Augustine when Regional Super50 action continues.
Windwards proved their worth as a team to be on the watch for, having won the only playable match in round one versus the Leeward Hurricanes in a Day/Night clash by 2 wickets as rain forced a No Result ending to the other two games.
Half-centurions Darron Nedd, who scored a match-winning 95 and wicket-keeper Dillon Douglas (61) alongside a string of scores from veteran Sunil Ambris (25), opener Stephan Pascal (40) and skipper Teddy Bishop (32) will be lingering in the thoughts of the Harpy Eagles bowling unit.
After rain spoiled the Eagles first game, forcing them to abandon the match after posting almost 300 thanks to 83 from Kevlon Anderson, 61 from Raymond Perez and 54 from Captain Matthew Nandu; it’s likely today’s encounter could be a high-scoring skirmish.
One advantage for the Windwards is their bowlers actually getting in some match time and despite allowing the Leewards to cross the 300-run mark, Shadrack Descarte, Kenneth Dember and Nedd all bagged 3 wickets.
Guyana’s middle/lower order will need to capitalize on their starts from the first round against a formidable Volcanoes bowling attack.
One huge plus for Guyana is vice-captain Gudakesh Motie leading a strong spin unit featuring off-spinner Richie Looknauth, Junior Sinclair and a few overs from Kevlon if need be.
Seamers Ronaldo Alimohamed alongside Keemo Paul and Thaddeus Lovell will have their work cut out for them versus an in-form Volcanoes team, who also had great support from their tail-enders as part of their first victory.
The Harpy Eagles will definitely look to their leading scorers to help set the tone for the rest of the batsmen, like keeper Kemol Savory, Mavindra Dindyal and their string of all-rounders like Alimohamed and Junior Sinclair.
With Sunday’s third round encounter a Day/Night duel against the home team Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, Guyana will be desperate to clinch a win come today as they prepare for their first assignment under lights.
Other matches in today’s second round triple-header include, Barbados Pride will see the Hurricanes at the Queen’s Park Oval, while the Red Force and Jamaica Scorpions lock horns in the only Day/Night with all eyes locked in on potentially good weather across the Twin Island Republic.
Today’s match is set to bowl off from 9:00h, weather permitting.
