Kaieteur Sports – The final event of the Annual National Draughts Association Championship was played last Sunday at the Transport Sports Club. The event was contested on the International 10×10 boards. This is the most important event since prospects for the Panam Draughts, which is scheduled to be played next April in Paramaribo Suriname, can be selected.

Linden player Floyd Cumberbatch took an assailing lead with 18 points to win the Championship. Floyd also won the ‘A’ class the previous week to earn him player of the tournament. Steve Bacchus and Navin Meighbarran both ended with 16 points each. A tie breaker saw Navin Meighbarran taking the nod to earn the second place, Steve Bacchus ended on third. Aubrey Rowe with a close 15 points finished 4th. That was Rowe’s first competitive game on the 10×10 board and he looks to be a good prospect for upcoming games. All the winners were awarded with gifts.
The National Draughts Association would like to thank the following sponsors for their support during the championship: M&M Snackette and Fast Food Services, Puran Bro. Waste Management Inc., Y2K Pawn Shop on Regent Road Bourda, Ahmad Hydraulics Bagotstown, Elias Gentle Attorney at Law and Juice Power on Middle Street who provided snacks for one of the events.
The final competition for the year would be held in December where players would have a chance to take home Christmas hampers.
