(Kaieteur News) – Two men have died after the boat they were in sank in the treacherous Puruni River Wednesday afternoon. Dead are Patrice Grimmond and Evis Robin (ages and addresses are unknown at this time).

Deceased, Patrice Grimmond
The incident occurred around 16:00hrs, as the boat was traveling from Surie Mouth Backdam to Puruni Landing when it reportedly developed mechanical issues, police said in a press release.
Police said preliminary information indicates that the vessel which was carrying four occupants, encountered mechanical difficulties and subsequently became unbalanced resulting in it capsizing. Two of the individuals on board managed to swim to safety. However, Grimmond and Robin, initially were reported missing, but their bodies later surfaced.
A team of police ranks was deployed to the area to carry out investigations and assist in search and recovery efforts.
