Outgoing Leader of the Opposition
Dear Editor,
It was always going to be a hard call for the outgoing LOO. Caught between a rock and a hard place…damn if he did, damn if he didn’t.
Having given his unsolicited, no objection to the confirmation of the two female judges in the two top judicial posts, he could not now turn around and give his no objection for one of the two to be confirmed. That would seem as though he was in agreement with the early retirement strategy. So, the easiest way out was not to respond. By doing so, the impression is also conveyed that he is not in agreement with the acting incumbent to be made substantive in the top post.
His moment to shine and rise above partisan politics is now lost. He who hesitates is lost. And in the meantime, the acting continues.
