(Kaieteur News) – Twenty-year-old Kyra is staking her claim as one of Guyana’s most promising soca talents with the release of her latest single “Under the Sun,” dropped today as her official entry for the 2026 Soca Monarch competition.
The Nabaclis-born artist, who currently reigns as the 2025 Junior Soca Monarch champion, is determined to defend her crown with this high-energy power soca track that showcases her evolution as a performer.
“The inspiration for this new song came from last year’s competition,” Kyra explained. “My team and I decided that we wanted another power soca to go into the competition with again next year. We were playing around with concepts and ‘Under the Sun’ came to mind.”
The track was crafted in collaboration with fellow soca artist Vintayge, who contributed 95% of the lyrics and melody. “Vintayge came up with the concept that suited me perfectly, and then the whole magic was made,” she said.
Kyra’s journey into soca music is an unlikely one. Growing up in a musical household where her father sang, she developed an early love for R&B music. “Soca was never my thing,” she admitted. “I would prefer dancehall or R&B.”
However, her path changed when she entered the music industry through the Soca and Calypso Monarch competitions, leading her to embrace the genre that has now become her signature sound.
She began pursuing music seriously at age 14, made it official at 17, and signed with Selector Andre Ent. at 19. Since then, her competitive track record speaks for itself; first place at the 2023 Junior Calypso competition, second place at both the 2024 Junior Calypso and Junior Soca competitions, and first place at the 2025 Junior Soca Monarch, a title she now prepares to defend.
Fans can expect more music from the young artist, as she confirmed that additional singles for 2026 are in the works. But Kyra’s vision extends far beyond competition stages.
“My musical goal is to be one of the biggest musicians coming out from Guyana and to make it a business,” she stated with confidence.
With “Under the Sun” now available and her sights set firmly on the 2026 Soca Monarch crown, Kyra is proving that sometimes the best career paths are the ones we don’t initially plan, but fully commit to once we find them. The single is now available on all streaming platforms. Follow her journey @KyraOfficial on all social media platforms.
