(Kaieteur News) – Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Priya Manickchand on Tuesday turned the sod for the construction of a new $40 million office for the Eccles/Ramsburg Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) on the East Bank of Demerara.
The project marks a significant step in strengthening local governance infrastructure and improving service delivery to residents within the Eccles/Ramsburg community, the ministry said in a press release. The new facility is expected to be completed within four months.
The construction of the modern NDC office follows the demolition of a previously dilapidated structure, which had long posed challenges to the effective functioning of the council. The new building is designed to provide a safe, efficient, and accessible environment for both staff and residents.
Minister Manickchand emphasised the government’s continued commitment to enhancing local government systems and ensuring that communities are equipped with the necessary resources to function effectively. The Eccles/Ramsburg NDC serves a growing population along the East Bank corridor, and the new office is expected to significantly enhance administrative operations and community engagement.
The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development continues to roll out initiatives aimed at modernizing infrastructure and strengthening governance at the community level across Guyana.
