(Kaieteur News) – A 33-year-old man was taken into custody on Wednesday after police at the Itaballi Checkpoint discovered nearly 800 grams of cannabis concealed in his belongings.
According to a statement from the police at around 12:00hrs on Wednesday ranks of Regional Division #7 conducted a police operation at Itaballi Checkpoint, where a blue motor car with registration number PAG 7678, belonging to a 33-year-old man of Bartica, Essequibo River, was stopped and searched while on its way from Itaballi Landing to Puruni Landing with three passengers.
In the course of the search, a black haversack and a pair of long boots were discovered in the car. Upon conducting a search of a container found in the haversack a large package containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be narcotics was discovered. A similar package was also discovered in the long boots.
A passenger in the car claimed ownership of the suspected narcotics, and was subsequently informed of the offence and arrested. The suspected narcotics, when weighed, amounted to 792 grams.
