(Kaieteur News) – The Ministry of Housing on Friday commissioned a new Regional Housing Office at Catherina’s Lust, Region Five. The new office is located in the same compound with the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI).

Minister of Housing, Collin Croal joined Regional Officials and staff in commissioning the new Regional Housing Office on Friday.
The modern facility which was built at a cost of $52 million is designed to enhance service delivery and better meet the housing needs of residents. The operations of the new office have since moved from the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) office.
Minister of Housing, Collin Croal said that with his ministry’s increasing mandate, it was important that the services are offered in a larger and more equipped facility. This he said, coupled with adequate human resources, will ensure the ministry’s mandate is achieved.
He disclosed that the backlog of housing applications in Region Five will be immediately addressed by those employed at the new office.
“The Ministry of Housing in itself, we are growing in every region in terms of the capacity and the work that is required ahead. Here in Region 5, for example, we still have a number of pending applicants. So, we’re taking a decision to be able to strengthen the offices at the regional level,” Croal said on Friday.
He disclosed that his ministry is seeking private lands to address the current demand.
Meanwhile, Regional Chairman, Recardo Phillips lauded the investment, emphasizing that it aligns with the government’s national development agenda, where housing remains a top priority.
