(Kaieteur Sports) – After a number of battles and testing encounters, both Essequibo and defending champs Demerara will be keen on pulling out all the stops as the two sides will meet in the final of the inaugural GCB Queensway Super50 Inter-county Cricket tournament.

Defending champs Demerara will face the in-form Essequibians this coming weekend in the GCB Queensway Senior Men’s inter-county final.
Both teams have been in great form, with Essequibo being the late-bloomers having won their last two matches in convincing fashion to help seal a spot in this weekend’s upcoming tussle for the title.
With a few days off, both units will be keen on getting as much rest and practice time in, ahead of the final match, as players will need to regroup and iron out any kinks with tons of work expected to be done by both teams.
The final preliminary rounds ended this past weekend with Essequibo dismantling the GCB Select XI, while champs Demerara almost lost their way in a thriller versus the Berbicians; which essentially set the tone for what is expected to be the most exciting encounter of the tournament.
Both teams have had huge amounts of success, thanks to key players who have been performing well throughout the competition with both bat and ball, factors which will play huge roles in the upcoming encounter.
The few days off will also help players to recover from their couple weeks of intense competition, while assessing the necessary strategic planning and execution models, which both sides will more than likely be placing emphasis on; having faced each other prior.
The last time these two sides met, the defending champs walked away with a commanding 50-run win after upsetting the Essequibians in their own backyard of Hampton Court, which is also the site for this Sunday’s finale.
Essequibo will be keen on revenge, especially with the title now up for grabs and the advantage possibly being reset to their homecourt, having stormed to two recent back-to-back-wins.
More importantly, players will be looking to churn out top individual performances with the bigger picture of National Selection to the Guyana Harpy Eagles squad, ahead of next month’s CWI Regional Super50 Championship; a tournament that has eluded the local boys for more than a decade.
