Dear Editor,
Senor Carlos Amador Perez Silv, Venezuela’s Ambassador to Guyana recent remarks are a masterclass in hypocrisy and disinformation. His government’s sudden concern for international law is absurd, given its own record of violating it.
Venezuela has repeatedly intruded into Guyanese waters, including a coast guard vessel in 2025 and a frigate in 2013. Yet it now cries foul over U.S. operations in international waters in the Caribbean Sea. This is pure distraction from the Maduro regime’s internal failures and its aggression towards its neighbors.
His arguments collapse under scrutiny:
The real threat to our region is not a fictional U.S. invasion, but the very real aggression of the Maduro regime. We will not be fooled by these empty words.
Shame, also, on regional voices like St. Vincent’s Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves, who would sell out Guyana’s sovereignty for cheap political favours. The Guyanese people are watching you Senor Gonsalves and we know a sell out when we see one.
