(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys seh de government gone pon one big “efficiency drive.” Big fancy word, that. It mean doing more with less. But yuh know how this government does operate. Dem doing de opposite. Dem doing less with more but still calling a press conference fuh tell people how much dem doing.

Now it look as if dem pretending to cut waste and get more value fuh money. But guess wha’s de first thing dem chop? Newspaper ads! Not de overpriced contracts, not de fancy refreshments, not de gas guzzling SUVs that carrying one man to sign one paper, not choosing a swamp to build a major project — no, no. Efficiency start with cutting newspaper ads.

Dem boys seh that sound more like vendetta than value for money. If yuh really want efficiency, yuh start with de big leaks — de padded projects, de ghost workers, de ministry that got more consultants than chairs. But these fellas believe that efficiency mean shutting up anybody who pointing out de waste.

Dem boys seh de new definition of efficiency is “silencing de critics and saving lil change.” De government efficiency drive looking more like a government revenge drive.

If dem serious ‘bout cutting waste, dem should do like America did. Over deh, dem set up a Department of Government Efficiency — DOGE — to hunt down wastage like a bloodhound. Every agency had to explain every dollar. That’s how yuh find real savings.

But yuh know how our people does copy half a thing and still get it wrong. Instead of a Department of Government Efficiency, dem create a Department of Getting Even — still DOGE, but this one does bark at newspapers instead of thieves.

Dem boys seh, if yuh watching carefully, yuh gon see who de ads getting cut from. Ain’t no accident it’s de ones that writing stories government don’t like. Dem call it saving money, but it look more like sawing off de heads of de same papers that does ask too much question.

Efficiency? Dem boys seh if de plan is to do more with less, dem might soon be doing nothing with more.

And if de government really want to save big, dem could try one last idea — cut out de nonsense, de waste, and de excuses. In fact, dem boys seh, cut out de whole set and start fresh. Now that would be real efficiency!
