Kickback needed fuh kick-start
(Kaieteur News) – Before a horse move forward, it gat to first kick backwards. It does dig in it back foot, plant dem heel in de ground and thrust itself forward. In other words, sometimes yuh got to kick back before yuh can move forward. Is nature way of doing things.
And what is true fuh de horse apparently is also true fuh doing business. At least, dat is what some people believe. Yuh gat to kick back fuh kick-start de deal. If yuh want de contract, yuh grease de palm. If yuh want de licence, yuh oil de machinery. And if yuh want de whole system to work, yuh got to make sure everybody foot get a little something to help dem move!
Now dem boys beginning to understand. Some projects apparently gat more horsepower because somebody put a little extra fuel in de tank. And dat fuel does not always come from a petrol station!
When dem boys did small, dem use to do karate. One day, a boy who went to de class ask he father, “Daddy, what is de difference between karate and politics?”
De father tell he, “In karate, yuh does have back kicks; in politics, it does be kickbacks.”
Dem boys remember de story about a man who build a house pun he neighbour land and de neighbour sue he. De man went to see he lawyer, who tell he straight: “Yuh in de wrong. Yuh build pun another man land. Best thing is settle out of court.”
But de man did not like he neighbour, and he did not want to pull down de house. So he ask de lawyer, “What if I send de judge a cow as a gift?”
De lawyer nearly fall off he chair. “Absolutely not! De judge is a no-nonsense man. He will consider dat a bribe and rule against you. Listen to me: settle with your neighbour and forget de cow!”
A few weeks later, de man return to de lawyer office, smiling from ear to ear.
“I win de case!” he announce.
De lawyer nearly swallow he pen. “How yuh manage dat? De law was clearly against you!”
De man grin. “Simple. I send de judge a cow in me neighbour name!”
Talk half. Leff half.
