Guyana running on light and darkness
(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys seh that in Guyana, you don’t have to wait for night to get darkness. Darkness does come during the day too. Is a twenty-four-hour service, except that nobody know when it coming and GPL don’t give no guarantee when it going.
Every day now, some area coming offline. One day is Sophia, next day is East Bank, then Berbice, then East Coast. Before you could finish cussing GPL for one blackout, another area gone in darkness. Is like the electricity playing musical chairs, and every community waiting to find out who getting cut off next.
GPL keep talking about feeders going offline. Dem boys want to know how much feeders this country got, and why so much of dem behaving like dem got a mind of dem own? One feeder trip, another feeder drop out, and another one apparently decide it ain’t working today. If the feeders were employees, half of dem woulda been fired long ago for absenteeism.
And what is this thing about feeders going offline at all hours? Sometimes is morning, when people trying to get ready for work. Sometimes is midday, when business trying to make money. Sometimes is night, when people trying to sleep in the heat. GPL seem to be practising equality: everybody must suffer!
Dem boys wondering whether this is another way of saying loadshedding. Nobody saying loadshedding, but the light disappearing from one area and then another. If it walking like loadshedding, behaving like loadshedding and leaving people sweating like loadshedding, then wha else dem boys supposed to call it?
Perhaps GPL inventing a new system called surprise shedding. You don’t know when your area coming off, how long it staying off, or whether the light coming back before your ice melt. Is like a lottery, except nobody winning. Dem boys got one suggestion. GPL should stop telling people which feeder gone offline and start telling people why. The public deserves more than technical explanations that sound like the light itself get confused.
