(Kaieteur News) – Reports of a disturbing incident have surfaced involving a five-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by a 14-year-old boy in Region Nine.
The allegation was disclosed by the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party on their Facebook page on Wednesday. The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security has since confirmed that the case has been under investigation since Monday.
According to the WIN party, the incident reportedly occurred on October 9. The mother of the girl explained that on that day, she left her daughter and seven-year-old son in the care of their grandmother. When she returned around 21:00hrs, she found her daughter crying and bleeding while lying in a hammock.
“Following the incident, her mother took her to a healthcare worker’s home. An ambulance was called to transport her to Lethem Regional Hospital but did not arrive until between 5:30 and 6 a.m. on October 10,” the party stated,
Upon arrival at the hospital, doctors confirmed that the girl had been sexually molested.
According to the party, the community described the 14-year-old alleged perpetrator as having a history of troubling behavior with previous misdemeanours, often escaping with only warnings from the Toshao. A relative also reported the matter but did not get any satisfaction from the community leader.
Shortly after the incident was made public, the ministry issued a statement confirming that the case was reported to the Guyana Police Force and is under active investigation. “On receiving the report from the Guyana Police Force (GPF) on October 9, 2025, the Childcare and Protection Agency (CPA) immediately intervened and has been providing continuous support, including psychosocial support and trauma-focused counselling, to the child and family. There has been sustained contact and monitoring, ensuring the child’s safety and well-being at all times,” the ministry stated.
The girl has been medically examined and cleared to speak, and a forensic interview was conducted at the child advocacy centre on Monday. The case remains under investigation by the police. The ministry reiterated its commitment to protecting every child in Guyana and assured that it would continue to take swift action in all cases of child abuse and exploitation.
