(Kaieteur News) – Police are on the hunt for the occupants of a house at Tabatinga, Lethem, Central Rupununi where they found 435.5 grams of cocaine and 68.6 grams of cannabis on Friday.
According to a statement, police said that they conducted an intelligence-led operation at the location during which the narcotics were found.
“The operation was led by a Chief Inspector, two Inspectors, one Sergeant, and a party of ranks. Acting on information received, the team proceeded to a fenced yard in the Tabatinga area, where a flat concrete house, which was locked at the time was observed. A search of the yard was conducted and several black plastic bags were found concealed beneath dry bushes next to a garbage heap,” police said.
An examination revealed that the bags were found to contain several white zip lock packets with “whitish, rock-like substances suspected to be cocaine.” There were also several others that contained leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
“The narcotics were taken to the Lethem Police Station where they were processed. The suspected cocaine was counted and amounted to 1,245 zip lock bags weighing 435.5 grams while the suspected cannabis amounted to 74 zip-lock bags weighing 68.6 grams,” police noted.
Both sets of narcotics were placed into evidence bags, marked, sealed and lodged as exhibits. Based on information received by the police, it is indicated that the residence is normally occupied by Spanish nationals.
“The area was canvassed for CCTV footage, but none was observed. No arrest has been made thus far, and investigations are ongoing,” police added.
