Kaieteur Sports – Semi-final action bowls off today in the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association (UCCA) Price Is Right Supermarket T20 Blast, with over $1 million in cash and prizes on the line.
The competition is being coordinated by UCCA president, Junior Blair.
No. 64 Fighting Marines and No. 72 Cut and Load square off at the 69 Vikings Ground for a spot in Sunday’s final, where defending champions No. 72 Cut N Load already await after drawing the bye. First ball is set for 13:00 hrs.
The competition, arguably the biggest second-division cricket tournament in Berbice and possibly Guyana, is solely sponsored by businessman Danesh Roopnarine [Boyco] of Price Is Right Supermarket, Corentyne, and organized by the UCCA.
A number of lucrative prizes are on offer, making the competition highly attractive. Over $1M in cash, trophies, cricket gear, and other incentives are up for grabs.
The winning team will receive $425,000, while the runner-up will take home $225,000, and the two semi-finalists will each receive $50,000.
Individual prizes will also be awarded. The best batsman, best bowler, and MVP of the final will each receive a new bat, a pair of boots, a trophy, and $10,000.
Additionally, the tournament’s top wicketkeeper, leading run-scorer, and highest wicket-taker will be awarded a pair of wicketkeeping gloves, batting pads, and boots, respectively. Medals will also be presented to all players in the final.
Teams were provided with uniforms and balls, while the sponsor will cover expenses for both the semi-final and final. New balls will be supplied at the start of each match.
Eighteen teams were scheduled to participate, with the competition being played on a single-elimination knockout basis.
The final will feature live video coverage across multiple platforms.
All official rules and regulations in accordance with the ICC are in force. Prior to the final, a women’s exhibition softball match will also be played.
According to the UCCA, no form of indiscipline will be tolerated. In the event of a tie, the overall run rate (runs scored and wickets lost) will determine the winner. (Samuel Whyte)
