Kaieteur News – Contractors executing works on the Nismes Secondary School in Region Three, have been given up to December this year to complete the project.
According to the Ministry of Education, subject Minister Sonia Parag and team visited the project site on Friday and issued a stern warning to contractors that all works must be completed.
To ensure the deadline is met, Minister Parag has mandated close supervision. “I will be having the consultant every day, coming to this site, or every other day to monitor and make sure that the progress is happening day-by-day,” she asserted.

Minister of Education, Sonia Parag on Friday visiting the project site of the Nismes Secondary School in Region Three.
Parag advised contractors to double their manpower and extend working hours where necessary to ensure early completion.
“They need to do what they have to do to be able to make that happen within three months,” she stressed.
With three of the buildings set to be completed over the weekend, 11 classrooms will be available to accommodate students in the new week, the ministry stated. The minister said the school should be fully operational by the new school term in January.
“We will now be able to move students from the old building at the school to the new complex while we finish the construction on the dome and other buildings,” Minister explained.
Other buildings yet to be completed include the admin office, a library, a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) wing, and science laboratories.
The sod for the $1.3 billion secondary school was turned by former education minister, Priya Manickchand in November 2024.
The project was awarded in five lots to ECS Construction & General Supplies – Lot 1 for $237,050,110; ECS Construction & General Supplies – Lot 2 for $237,427,608; JK Enterprise Inc. – Lot 3 for $392,372,526; Mason’s Innovative Construction & General Supply – Lot 4 for $154,448,800; and Lot 5 to R&R General Construction & Supplies for $314,867,740.
The ministry at the time disclosed that lots one, two, three and five were expected to be completed in eight months, while lot four was slated to be completed within three months’ time.
The school, when completed, will benefit students from Nismes to La Grange and will be equipped to meet the needs of students, supporting the region’s dedication to educational excellence, and a further step towards achieving universal secondary education, the ministry said.
This Nismes Secondary School is designed to accommodate approximately 800 students and will feature over 20 classrooms, science labs, a TVET wing, and other necessary amenities to support the goal of universal secondary education.
