Dear Editor,
I refer to a Kaieteur News article in which Guyanese were informed of the approval by the Government of Guyana of the seventh oil extraction operation by ExxonMobil Guyana Limited https://kaieteurnewsonline.com/2025/09/23/govt-approves-exxons-hammerhead-project/).
One of the depressing elements of this information is the picture showing the executives of EMGL and the Minister of Natural Resources all satisfied with their achievement; while the Guyana flag is dragging on the floor, with shoes almost trampling the green in the flag.
See the picture below:

Minister of Natural Resources Vickram Bharrat (second from right) and officials from ExxonMobil, Hess and CNOOC
Mister Minister, please end the contempt and disrespect displayed for our National Flag, an important symbol of our Nation. You must do better, Mister Minister.
Sincerely,
Dr. C. Kenrick Hunte
Professor and Former Ambassador

It’s the excitement for the new monies that will be coming that they probably
did not realize they may have trampled on Guyana’s flag.
The flag must have been hastily placed there for the photo op.
Usually, flags are supposed to fly higher and don’t touch the floor/ground.
