Kaieteur News – Canadian gold company, G Mining Ventures (GMIN) has commenced building a 13-kilometer access road to its 5.4 million ounces Oko West Gold Project, located in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).

GMIN is the 100% owner of the Oko West gold project, which falls under its main prospecting licence (PL) covering 44 square kilometers (10,890 acres), containing an estimated 5.4 million ounces of gold. The company had revealed that it expanded its land holdings in Region Seven to 71 square kilometers.
In a recent project update, GMIN said that a road is being built from Duck Pond, Puruni to the Oko West Gold Project site. “This vital link supports safe and efficient transport and logistical operations. Our commitment is to develop responsibly, building infrastructure that serves both mining and sustainability,” the company noted.
This announcement follows the recent disclosure by the company that it has received the Environmental Permit from Guyana’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the Oko West project.
The EPA in a notice said GMIN’s Oko West Gold Mine Project, construction and operation of gold mining and processing has been approved. The agency noted, “The Environmental Assessment Board reviewed and declared the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) related to this project, acceptable…the EPA is satisfied that the project can be conducted in accordance with good environmental practices, and in a manner that avoids, prevents and minimizes any adverse effects which could result from the activity.”
The five-year permit is valid through July 2030. It authorises the construction and operation of Oko West, which is expected to create an average of 1,270 direct permanent jobs during its lifetime. The Feasibility Study for Oko West outlines a long-life, low cost, and high-margin operation. The company had said that the Oko West project is targeting an average annual production of 350,000 ounces of gold over a 12.3-year mine life.
