Cyclist killed in hit-and-run accident
Kaieteur News – A 41-year-old man was killed on Sunday night in a hit-and-run accident along the Ruimzeight Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
The dead man has been identified as Mohamed Shazaud Wahab, a labourer of Lot 16 Wallers Delight, WCD.
According to a police release, Wahab and his brother Ahmad Wahab were riding their bicycles side by side to each other on the road. Ahmad Wahab was reportedly riding on the inside (closest to the white line) while the now deceased was more in the center of the northern carriageway of the public road.
Ahmad told investigators that a white minibus (number unknown), which was heading east along the northern carriageway at a fast rate, collided with his brother, who fell onto the roadway and received injuries about his body.
Wahab was reportedly picked up in an unconscious condition by the EMTs and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was seen, examined and pronounced dead on arrival.
As investigations are ongoing, Wahab’s body is at the Ezekiel’s mortuary awaiting post-mortem examinations.
