Kaieteur News – An 11-year-old girl was killed on Sunday after the canter truck she was travelling in ran into a trench at Enmore, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Dead is Kimberly Singh.
According to police reports, the accident occurred around 12:00hrs on Sunday on the access road at Enmore New Housing Scheme. The incident involved a canter vehicle (GAH 1139) which was driven by her father, Rupnarine Singh, 40, of Hope West, Enmore.
Police said in the vehicle at the time also, were Kimberly’s mother Kamini Jairam, 32, and her siblings ages three, four, and eight.
It was reported to the police that the canter was parked at Lot 248 Hope West, Enmore, at the home of Rieaad Naraine, when Singh met him about 09:00 hrs. on the road and asked him to borrow the canter to take his family for a drive down the back of Enmore New Housing Scheme.
Naraine reported that he told Singh to call and seek permission from his ‘boss man’, who is Takechand Rooplall, the owner of the vehicle.
Naraine told police he subsequently left Enmore and went to De Hoop, Mahaica, leaving the canter vehicle at his residence, parked with the keys inside,” the report stated.
Further, police said when questioned by investigators, Singh reported that he took the vehicle and was heading south along the access road in Enmore New Housing Scheme with his wife sitting in the back seat along with their four children.
Singh told police that he was driving “at a fast rate when he lost control of the vehicle and ended up in a nearby trench.”
As a result, all the occupants received injuries about their bodies and were picked up by residents and taken to the Enmore Regional Hospital for treatment.
Reports are that the 11-year-old girl was pronounced dead on arrival around 14:09 hrs. Her body was then taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
